What is the difference between third party and merchant accounts?

The big difference is that with a third party account, your bank is responsible for you.

With a merchant account provider / payment processor such as GTBill.com, the merchant account provider takes the financial risk.

Aquiring an adult merchant account directly from a bank is very difficult.
